Support Rigs
For the best support, stability and smooth movement of any type of image capture device, multiple points of contact are recommended.  The DSLR rigs from Zacuto provide exactly that...points of contact so the photographer/videographer will be able to shoot stills or video with a minimal amount of undesired movement.

To use the rigs, we recommend the use of the Z-Finder.   The Z-Finder is Zacuto’s Optical Viewfinder that allows DSLR cameras to have the correct form factor for video. It offers 3x focusable magnification, a 40mm diameter lens, an eyecup preventing extraneous light leakage, and a field of view perfectly matched to LCD screens. With Optics by Schneider, this 6 oz viewfinder is a filmmaker’s best tool for creating precision focus. The Z-finder currently fits the Canon 5d, Canon 7d, Nikon D90, Panasonic GF1, Panasonic GH1, and many other cameras.     Canon T2i shooters, see note below.

To attach the Z-Finder, you will need the mounting frame so the Z-Finder attaches to the rear screen of your DSLR (this is a consumable item that you keep).  Have no fear, the mount has a removeable adhesive that will not permanently adhere to your camera.

The Zacuto Rigs come in multiple flavors, all of which are dependent upon funtionality, needs, and of course budget.  All are available to rent or purchase at ProGear.  Please call or stop by and ask about our "try before you buy" program.

Here is an overview of the Zacuto Rigs from the basic set-up to more complex.

     DSLR Rapid Fire

The Rapid Fire is our most basic gunstock shooter weighing only 1lb 6 oz. It has 2 points of contact by using the gunstock in your chest and your hand on the camera.  Rapid Fire is light and easy to handle and has no baseplate or rod platform. Everything is quick releasable. The user can quickly free the camera from the gunstock by flipping the lever on the quick release tripod plate.

DSLR Quick Draw

The Quick Draw is similar to our Rapid Fire but uses a handgrip instead of the chest as a point of contact. Weighing in at only 1lb 3 oz, it is our lightest gunstock shooter. It has 2 points of contact by using the handgrip in one hand and your other hand on the camera. You can add a third point of contact by adding our Z-finder to the kit when placing your order.

     DSLR Tactical Shooter

The Tactical Shooter weighs only 1lb 8 oz but has three points of contact by having a one hand on the handgrip, the gunstock in your chest and your focusing hand presses up against the rod. You can add a fourth point of contact by adding our Z-finder to the kit when placing your order.

DSLR Precision

The Precision Shooter allows users to quickly go from run’n gun type shooting to studio shooting.  With the Precision Shooter, users can go from tripod to handheld in seconds, plus it gives users the ability to mount and power an on-board monitor. The rig alone weighs 7.5 Ibs and offers five points of physical contact.

Pictured here and included is the Marshall HDMI monitor, Z-Finder, Z-Focus, and V-Mount battery to power the monitor.  The Z-focus adapter has a new flippable design so you can quickly remove the follow focus and flip it from the operator to the assistant side in seconds. It also has a reversible feature which allows you to quickly reverse the direction of the follow focus drive unit so it rotates in the opposite direction which is useful when focusing Nikon lenses.  Tripod and video head are not included.

Pictured here, the Precision Shooter quickly transforms into the Sniper, allowing a quick release from the tripod mount and turns into a stable, shoulder mounted rig and still uses the follow focus adapter.  Not pictured are the counter weights that give the shooter a well balanced mount.

Special Instructions & Warnings:
- The Z-Finder will work with the Canon 550/T2i camera. However, the frame does cover the proximity sensor on the camera and we don’t recommend adhering the frame on the sensors. Therefore, Zacuto will be marking and cutting a slit in the paper covering that would normally attach to where the proximity sensors are. So when you pull off the adhesive covering, you will have to rub off the adhesive in that area so it will not adhere to the proximity sensor. It will be about a 1” space that you will rub off the adhesive and then you follow the regular z-finder instructions for mounting.
